The Stuff that Matters...

So... I was advised by a friend that I really need to write this down so I don't forget... and while I did mention it on facebook, who knows where it goes after your page runs out.

The other week at school we had "Back to School Night" for all of our kids and parents. I actually really like it because I have a chance to see kids who have moved on to middle school and high school when they come in with their younger siblings. I was fortunate enough to have a student come back to visit me (now a sophomore in high school) to tell me that she had "become a potter." She was so excited about it that we jumped up and down together. She showed me pictures of her ceramics and told me that her love of art started in my classroom. When I told her that she had made my year, she responded "Mrs. King, YOU MADE MY FREAKIN LIFE!!" It was so amazing to hear that from her.... so often you just kind of move through life not knowing if you have any real impact... I was blessed to gain confirmation from my friend Lorena. :) Here are some of the pictures of what she has been creating..... I am super proud of her...

I am teary looking at these pictures.... :)

On a separate note... I was told "Mrs. King... You smell like waffles." While this story is not as touching, it is pretty funny... and I really dig waffles... so good for me!

OK...so now I am crying! You just never know how many kids lives you touch and it is always amazing to see them grow into amazing young adults and come back to tell you just how much a part of their lives you are! ART TEACHERS ROCK! OK, I may be a little partial, but still...AWESOME story...thanks for sharing!
