What's that thing crawling across the driveway?

...Ummm a crawfish obviously! Because Colorado is so.... ummm... seaworthy.... Not to mention that a crawfish is a very suburban thing.... I mean... WHERE DID THIS THING COME FROM??
So there it was, just walking across the driveway. Without my glasses on, I thought it was some kind of huge bug... but when I got closer, I discovered it was a crawfish. Did someone drop it when they were going to boil it up? Here's my theory... on Wed night, we had this insane rain storm. It hadn't really rained all summer, so the ground was not about to accept water. The run off was nuts and there were huge rivers running down the street... I imagine that poor Charlie the Crawfish was washed from his beloved pond and into suburban confusion... where he very smartly crossed my driveway! Justin called the division of wildlife so we could do right by Charlie... the guy on the other end of the phone said that a bird could have picked him up from a nearby pond and dropped him by accident. I still vote for my theory... Anyway... here are some pictures of the little fella! Here he is in a dish of water after being rescued from the driveway...

Here is the release... Nancy, Roger and I went off to East Lake to set him free! Roger took care of the actual releasing!

There he is, just kind of deciding on what to do... and before we knew it, Charlie was gone! Once he realized that he was in the right place, he didn't hang around too long.

Hopefully that will be the last time he ends up in a dish!

Your driveway was his only hope! Otherwise he would have been lobster tartar!
